Freelance hourly rate calculator

Estimate a baseline hourly rate from the amount you want to take home, monthly business costs, and realistic billable hours. Use the result as a planning starting point.

Enter your numbers to estimate a rate.

This simple estimate does not include taxes, payment fees, unpaid leave, or other costs. It is for planning, not financial or tax advice.

How to estimate a freelance hourly rate

Add your monthly take-home goal to your recurring business expenses, then divide by the number of hours you expect to bill clients. For example, a 4,000 monthly target plus 600 in expenses across 80 billable hours gives a baseline estimate of 57.50 per billable hour, before taxes and other adjustments.

Billable hours are only part of your working month. Sales, admin, learning, and client communication can take substantial time, so avoid assuming every available work hour is billable. Review the inputs against your actual workload and local obligations.

What does this hourly rate calculator include?

It combines a take-home target and monthly business expenses, divided by planned billable hours. It does not calculate taxes or market pricing.

Should I use the estimate as my final price?

Use it as a baseline for planning. Project scope, experience, demand, expenses, taxes, and client expectations can affect your final pricing.
